WHAT IS AN INSURANCE APPRAISAL?

Appraisal is a method of Alternative Dispute Resolution often found in many homeowners and commercial insurance policies. An Appraiser is an unbiased / impartial professional who estimates the value of a property damage loss.
Once the Appraisal clause/provision is invoked due to a disagreement between the Policyholder and the Insurance Carrier, the insured's appraiser and the insurance carrier's appraiser will estimate the damage and try to come to an agreement on the amount of loss. If the appraisers fail to agree, they will submit their differences to an “Umpire.” An itemized decision agreed to by two of these three will set the amount of loss. Such award shall be binding.

A public adjuster (PA) represents you – the insurance policy holder – when you file a claim for residential or commercial property damage.
A public adjuster is a professional claims handler/claims adjuster who advocates for the insured/policyholder in assisting and negotiating that insured's insurance claim.
